April 27th, 2017 UPDATE

Thank you all for participating in the training sessions to the extent that you can and for helping with other tasks on shore or on the boat.  Many hands make light work.

The first Can One Race is May 11th!  It's a great time to get out, train, have some fun and shake out issues with sails, rigging, electronics etc.

Our two training sessions went well and without any glitches.  The boat is moving well, the new sails feel great and look great shape-wise.  What effect the rudder will have on our down wind sailing has yet to be determined.   Let's hope we get a training day in with a strong breeze out of the west.

It's important to spend time together to build chemistry and for those who have not sailed the boat much or at all, to become totally familiar with how everything works and where everything is located. Again we are not a walk on walk off program.

Safety check lists are moving forwards steadily.  We do want to practice the man-over-board drill with everyone on board.  EPIRB and PLB registrations are up to date.  We must check on the Jon Buoy repack schedule/requirements.

We have scheduled Watch Captain / Navigator and Boat Captain meetings for the Monday before each race.  These four individual will go though the final punch list to determine what remains outstanding, what changes need to be made, what the logistical plan is before for each race.

A brand new 12 man life raft has been ordered which meets the most demanding requirements for ocean racing. It's do before May 10th.  It will be packed to fit in the current spot.

A single side band radio is on the way from Canada.   McMichael's will be handling the installation at a convenient time during the summer.

All sails have been delivered and tested.  Minor adjustment are being made but none will be returning to the loft for shape adjustments.

All rigging so far has been working out great.  Minor adjustments are going to be made in the bowsprit area upon the recommendation of the bow team.

The trailer shelving is complete.  A work bench is being made, a draft beer system is on order.

Zhik soft good order is 99% complete.  They feel they can have most of the gear to us before the Block Island Race.

April 5th, 2017 UPDATE

Scheduled April 3rd launch postponed do to damage to upper bearing incurred during installation of new rudder.  New bearing expected to arrive Monday April 10th.

Please email me your ISAF ID numbers.  They are often required when registering crew for a race.

Also, please complete Emergency Contact information on the Crew List, tab two, on the site. This information is also required for certain offshore races when registering through Yacht Scoring.

Please scan and send me your Safety at Sea certificates if you have not already.

If you are not certified I suggest you signup for the Storm Trysail Foundation Safety at Sea seminar being held on Saturday, May 20th at SUNY Maritime.  Carter Holliday and I are signed up for Level 200 on that day.  You must have taken Level 100 to partake in Level 200.

Lastly, make sure you all have passports that do not expire before June of 2018.  To go to Halifax, Nova Scotia you will obviously need a passport.  All passports should not expire for six months after departure date from US as per the US INS.
